With Skyward, Veldes shows post rock sensibility with plenty of sweeping melodic riffs that take the listener on an emotionally cinematic journey. Guitar passages that possess a lot of heart show that overly layered song writing and complexity isn’t needed to take people to a personal place of thought provoking melancholy. With tides of melodic chords, and straight forward bass lines leading to sorrowful heartfelt piano passages that flow without jarring consequence. Both Skyward and Gone display two well crafted instrumentals, which highlight piano and more post rock driven segments. However with Woe Eater and Of Rain and Moss you get the darker side of this sound, with thunderous steadily paced guitars and vocals that set a mood. You don’t only listen to this album you feel it.
For fans of: Gallowbraid, early Thranenkind, early Heretoir.
