Wyqm(USA) - DeathSpectre CD (digi)

This raw and unapologetic one man black metal act hails from North Carolina USA with torturous grooves and sinister atmosphere. With mountains of fuzz, tracks 1-3 make it a mission to put you through the ringer, and let you know the psychedelic oppression is about to begin. Track 4 comes in slow, with looming presence that gently leads you into something uncomfortable, and brooding. This is followed by a very rocking atmospheric track that has some softer instrumentation with a strong doom influence. Track 6 features acoustic guitar at its start, with a haunting yet beautiful female voice, cello and violin, a change of pace unprecedented on the album, luring you into a sense of security. Track 7 lingers some soft synth and guitar work just before the black metal comes in full speed ahead with groove ridden riffs and then decays into a slower tempo yet never losing its presence. Track 8 is a blur of synthetic and industrial noise, that flows into track 9 that boasts perhaps one of the rawest riffs the album features, which screeches to a halt as the female voice once again lures you deeper into the sound. Track ten closes the album with black doom oppression that is slow and relentless.
Overall if you like raw black metal, this is an album to get. The vocals throughout the album are coarse and bleak with solid leads and great rhythms. It has the atmosphere and doom qualities that keep a listener entertained while giving itself to great guitar tone, and old school style production that allows Deathspecter to keep the hate alive.

Recommended if you like: (early) Nachtmystium, (early) Wolves In The Throne Room, Ruins of Beverast, Judas Iscariot
